Period Prep for the Spectrum Girlies

Period Prep for the Spectrum Girlies is a supportive, neurodiversity-affirming program designed to help autistic girls understand and prepare for menstruation in a clear, respectful, and confidence-building way. This program recognizes that traditional puberty education often overlooks sensory needs, communication differences, anxiety, and the need for concrete, predictable information—and it’s built to address those gaps.

Through structured lessons, visual supports, social stories, and hands-on learning, participants explore what periods are, what to expect before and during menstruation, and how to care for their bodies in ways that feel manageable and empowering. Topics include body changes, hygiene options, sensory-friendly products, emotional regulation, pain management, privacy, and self-advocacy.

The program is paced gently and presented in a straightforward, judgment-free manner, with opportunities for repetition, questions, and choice. Sensory considerations, autonomy, and emotional safety are prioritized throughout. There is no pressure to participate verbally, and information is shared using clear language that respects each participant’s comfort level.

Period Prep for the Spectrum Girlies aims to reduce fear, increase predictability, and build confidence so autistic girls feel informed, prepared, and supported as their bodies change. Caregivers may also receive guidance and tools to continue these conversations at home in a calm, affirming way.
