At Neurohappy, we provide individualized and evidence-based speech and language services for children and their families. We aim to empower these children and their families to understand themselves, build on each other’s strengths, advocate for their needs, and feel happy and connected as a family unit.
Relationship-based: As professionals, we prioritize building strong relationships with clients and their families. These relationships are the critical foundation to provide therapeutic services!
Family-centred: As professionals, we endeavour to work with all members of the family! Whatever interventions we put into place, they must work for everyone in the family. We focus on supporting the complete family unit!
Developmental approach: As professionals, we take a developmental approach. This means that we are not training specific skills, but rather we are removing the barriers. By removing the barriers that are in the way of their natural development, they are able to continue on their intrinsic developmental journey.
Naturalistic & Play-based: While providing therapy, we take a naturalistic and play-based approach. This means that we follow your child’s lead in play and engage in what they are interested in.
We are all a team guided by the child and family. We will work together as a therapeutic team to build strong relationships to support the child and the family in removing the barriers to the child’s natural development through play.
We see families who have government contracts with Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) as well as families who pay privately. Many insurance plans include funding for speech-language pathology, which can support funding for therapy.
At Neurohappy, we take a total language approach supporting kids and families with communication that will best support them. This means that we support verbal language, gestures, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
To support exploring AAC, we have access to devices with communication apps. This is a way to trial a high-tech communication system and build the skills that are required to be displayed in order to complete an application to the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Program. The child's school team is the one that leads the process for this application, but we are happy to support with this process!
